Day 3 of #inktober2017 and today’s rocket is the Agena target vehicle used to practice space rendezvous during the Gemini missions. Imagine you and a friend on escalators traveling in opposite directions and trying to throw two golf balls and have them connect exactly between you. That’s kind of how tricky space rendezvous is. Buzz Aldrin’s work on the subject was crucially important to the success of the missions, earning him the nickname “Dr. Rendezvous.” #sciencecomicsrockets #intospacewego #nasa #illustration #inktober #drawings

Day 2 of #inktober2017 and the rocket is the Vostok-K, the vehicle that took Valentina Tereshkova into space in June of 1963, making her the world’s first woman in space. Saw that today’s prompt was #divided so I thought we’d see the first stage boosters separating. (& I don’t know if Korolev was where I placed him with his buddy & he probably wasn’t wearing an overcoat because it was June, but I liked the blowing jackets in the blast) #inktober #vostok #space #sciencecomicsrockets #intospacewego

First #inktober2017 entry is my favorite rocket, the Mercury Atlas. Not only because it took John Glenn into orbit, but also because of that sleek, silvery look. It’s not what a lot of people immediately think of when someone says the word “rocket” (there are no fins!), and maybe that also adds to it’s neat factor for me. #sciencecomicsrockets #intospacewego #nasa #illustration #drawing #brushpen #crayons #inktober
