It’s time to unbox the age-old question of Talent vs. Effort on Comics Are Great!
How does your comics work change when you shift your focus from “expressing yourself” to “putting in the effort?” Are these terms mutually exclusive, or does the focus oscillate between those poles throughout the project? If so, how do you know when it’s time to change your focus?
I’m joined by Zack Giallongo, cartoonist behind Broxo, Star Wars: Ewoks: Shadows of Endor, and the Stratford Zoo Midnight Review series. Together we explore how a career in cartooning is equal parts creative expression and herculean effort, and how one finds balance between the two.

In this final entry into the Art SoundOff Challenge I reflect on how the challenge changed me, and offer advice to anyone who may be interested in starting a journal micro cast.
I’m back to work, but not back up to speed. I also share some initial reflections on what I got out of the Art SoundOff Challenge.
Turns out I’m getting a cold after all. Between that and the holiday, I didn’t get any drawing done. But I did watch the 1978 Superman film and gathered some takeaways.
Today I share how mentoring young cartoonists has benefitted my work in some real and substantial ways.
My power went out today, which set off a chain reaction of scheduling re-ordering, which set me to wondering about how to prepare for this in the future.
