Here’s a big highlight from the last decade. Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld, created by Dan Mishkin, Gary Cohn, and Ernie Colón, was a very important influence in my journey to becoming a cartoonist. So you can imagine how my heart leapt into my throat when Dan asked me to work on the Warren Commission Report with him and Ernie. A big part of my job on the book was thumbnailing, which meant Ernie drew panels according to the sketches I laid out. It’s amazing to me still that this happened. And Dan’s scripts instantly conjured the images. I remember thumbnailing this page and texting Dan at two in the morning, saying “I just sketched out a page that gave me goosebumps.” I’ll cherish this experience for the rest of my life. #jfk #graphicnonfiction #comicsdocumentary #americanhistory #presidents

Art from an unsold pitch by Dan Mishkin, Anne, and me for a comics documentary about the Apollo 12 mission, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean was an accomplished painter (the only artist sent to the moon!), and Anne and I did our best to evoke his visual style with the art. Captain Bean was on board to be an advisor on this project, which would have made it even more of a dream job. At least we got his blessing, which is a bucket list item even if the comic didn’t get made. #comics #graphicnovels #apollo #nasa
