I recently shared the “pile of pages” pic cartoonists like to post after the pencils/inks stages of a graphic novel are done. While it’s satisfying to know that every page of #BaronVonBear and the Case of the Two-Faced Statue is drawn, I still have to finish coloring the book.

I’m coloring a scene wherein our heroes & villains battle in a ruined city at the bottom of a haunted lake. The color palette was inspired by images from the British Museum’s Sunken Cities exhibition catalog.

Sheep, Rooster, and Duck. Three of the narrators from Science Comics: Rockets.

Anne and I based their characters on Kelsey Grammer, Bill Murray, and Dean Stockwell, respectively. They’re included in the book as the first known animals to fly in a human-made aircraft.

Anatomy of a sound effect. Something I developed over a decade ago to help my students understand the flexibility and power of sound design in comics. I’ve been told this has been used in some college classes as well–I just hope it helps lead cartoonists to more thoughtful integration of sound in their comics!
