Anne and I based their characters on Kelsey Grammer, Bill Murray, and Dean Stockwell, respectively. They’re included in the book as the first known animals to fly in a human-made aircraft.

Anatomy of a sound effect. Something I developed over a decade ago to help my students understand the flexibility and power of sound design in comics. I’ve been told this has been used in some college classes as well–I just hope it helps lead cartoonists to more thoughtful integration of sound in their comics!

I came across this comic I made for the 2016 A2CAF promotional anthology (https:// a2caf.com ).

In case you didn’t read monthly comics in the 70s and 80s, Marvel and DC Comics ran these absurd ads for Hostess snacks in their books.

It was that second-to-last panel that made me chuckle. It’s silly, but there’s also a sincere drop of my personal values in that moment. Sometimes people who act the worst need our help the most.
